About the DOCX Preeti/Kantipur/PCS Nepali to Unicode Converter

This tool converts an entire Word (.docx) document from a legacy Nepali font — Preeti, Kantipur, or PCS Nepali — into standard Unicode, without you having to copy and paste text section by section. Tables, headers, footers, footnotes, and formatting are all preserved; only the text encoding and font are changed.

Why this matters for old government and office documents

Decades of Nepali government reports, contracts, and correspondence exist as Word files typed in Preeti or similar legacy fonts. These documents are effectively unsearchable and font-dependent — open one without the right font installed and it displays as scrambled Roman text. Converting a whole document to Unicode in one pass turns it into something searchable, portable, and archive-safe, without losing the original layout.

Safe for mixed English + Nepali documents

Many real documents mix English and Nepali text in the same file. By default, this tool only converts text runs that are actually tagged with the selected legacy font, leaving English text completely untouched — important, since legacy font character maps overlap with ordinary Latin letters, and converting indiscriminately would garble any English content. If your whole document uses the legacy font without explicit per-run tagging, there's an option to convert everything instead.
